The City of Progress commemorated Good Deeds Day at Gweru Civic Centre with the initiative to honour and appreciate the selfless efforts of individuals and organisations who have made a positive impact in the community.

Ward 5 Councillor Aaron Mumvana narrated the significance of Good Deeds Day to residents and stakeholders who were present at the event.

“One of the Good Deeds that myself and everyone here present did, was participating in a clean-up campaign. We have also gathered here to recognize the efforts of individuals and stakeholders who have made a positive impact in our societies.

We celebrate the unsung heroes who have dedicated their time and resources to helping others”

Councillor Mumvana emphasized the importance of being good and that the smallest act of kindness can have a profound impact on a person’s life.

He applauded everyone who was present and took part in the special event.

“We are reminded that being good is not what we do but about what we are. Good deeds day is a reminder that we have the power to create a positive change.

As a city, we are reminded to foster a culture of kindness and generosity by working together.”

“Thank you for being part of this special event, your presence is testimony to bring good and make a positive impact in our communities.”

The guest of Honor for Good Deeds Day, Tanyaradzwa Chimanyiwa showed her heartfelt gratitude to witness the collective effort towards ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant environment during the clean-up campaign.

“It is not just about picking up litter but fostering a spirit of unity, care, and responsibility in Gweru. It is also about making a lasting impact on the environment and spreading kindness through our deeds no matter how small they may be.”

Chimanyiwa urged everyone present at the event to reflect on the cleanup campaign which is a national call for action that has inspired us to do good.

“The government of Zimbabwe through the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa declared the first Friday of the month as a national clean-up day.

This initiative is not only about a clean environment being an aesthetic goal but a necessity for public health and welfare.”

The Zimbabwe Republic Police took part on Good Deeds Day with the Midlands Liaison Officer Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko giving the mandate of ZRP which is instilling peace in communities as part of the good deed.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police mandate is to preserve peace and that aligns with the good deeds. As ZRP we are now enrolling new recruits aged 18 to 22 who feel like the life of crime is not good and want to be part of the good deeds should join us.”

In pursuit of inclusion on Good Deeds Day, sign language translators interpreted the whole event to students from Jairos Jiri Nara, leaving no one and no place behind.
