The Ministry of Health and Child Care issued a warning to members of the public about fraudulent individuals posing as facilitators for nurse recruitment.
However, these scammers claim to assist potential candidates in selecting their choices for placements at various hospitals, including Parirenyatwa, Sally Mugabe, UBH, Mpilo, Gutu, and Karanda Hospital.
“The scam is allegedly organized by someone calling herself “Sister Madya” from the Outpatient Department (OPD), and a person identified as Dr. Madyira, who is providing a WhatsApp number (0773815136),” reads part of the statement.
Meanwhile, these individuals may promise guaranteed recruitment while requesting payment or asking for personal information.
As part of the process, potential candidates are instructed to pay USD 75 through Innbucks or Mukuru.
“The Ministry of Health and Child Care emphasizes that nursing recruitment is free of charge, and the Government does not require any payments to secure employment in the healthcare sector,” the statement reads.
Furthermore, the Ministry clarified that it has no affiliation with these scammers hence the public should exercise caution. Additionally, for the public to safeguard itself, information can be verified through official Ministry channels, report incidents to the Zimbabwe Republic Police immediately, and avoid engaging with suspicious entities.
“For authentic information on nurse recruitment, follow official Ministry social media channels and Government State media,” the statement advises.
Therefore, the current economic climate, marked by high unemployment rates and a scarcity of job opportunities, may make individuals more susceptible to such scams, as they may feel desperate for employment.
