The government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with a private developer that will see veterans of the liberation struggle benefiting from residential stands under the Presidential Stands for Veteransof the Liberation Struggle Programme.
The tripartite agreement signed between the Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle
Affairs, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, and Prevail Group of Companies will see at least 50 000 beneficiaries acquiring residential stands under the project.
“The Second Republic is concerned about the welfare of veterans. We are glad that we are fulfilling what is required by the statutes of the constitution. The first phase will benefit 50000 veterans of the liberation struggle and we are going to do the programme transparently,” Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs, Senator Monica Mavhunga added.
“The development represents a collaborative approach to improve the welfare of veterans of the liberation struggle through structured programmes,”Local Government and Public Works, Hon Daniel Garwe stated.
The developer will be responsible for the development of the residential stands, ensuring that the requisite infrastructure and amenities are in place.
“Section 23 of the Constitution has got provision of looking after war veterans and that 20 percent of developments taking place must be set aside for warveterans. As a ministry, we are here to honour that provision in the Constitution. These agreements for the development of stands for war veterans is part of that effort,” said the Minister.
“We are happy to be part of this initiative. We are ready to start the work so that war veterans can benefit from this initiative,”Prevail Group of Companies’ chairperson, Dr Paul Tungwarara noted.
