Givemore Mujeyi (37) was sentenced to 5 years in prison for having sexual intercourse with a minor (16) by Gokwe Magistrates’ coumm Court on the 13th of January 2026.
Mujeyi initiated a relationship with the victim at her residence in Chief Nemangwe, Gokwe South, and had unprotected sexual intercourse.
They moved to Hwedza, where they cohabited as husband and wife.
The matter came to light after the offender dumped the minor and fled with one of his congregants’ wives in Battlefields.
Mujeyi was sentenced to a total of 6 years in prison, with 1 year suspended on condition that he does not commit the same crime in 5 years, and he will serve an effective sentence of 5 years imprisonment.
The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, in a press statement, warned the public that the legal age of consent is strictly enforced to protect the minors.
“The NAPZ reminds the public that the legal age of consent is strictly enforced to protect minors from exploitation by adults in positions of perceived spiritual or social influence .”
In a related story, a 59-year-old man from Gokwe was convicted by the Gaokwe Regional Court for sexually abusing his 15-year-old niece.
The offender and victim lived in the same house, and he took advantage of his wife’s absence to enter the victim’s room and initiate his romantic desires.
They engaged in sexual intercourse multiple times between January 2024 and December 2025.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the ordeal came to light after the offender was caught in the act while the aunt was sleeping.
“The offender was sentenced to 9 years in prison, with 4 years suspended, resulting in an effective sentence of 5 years.”
The National Prosecuting Authority emphasizes that consent is legally irrelevant in cases involving minors.
The recent conviction and sentencing of a 59-year-old man in Gokwe for sexually abusing his 15-year-old niece and Mujeyi for raping a 16-year-old underscores the judiciary’s commitment to upholding these laws, which serves as a stark reminder that consent is irrelevant in cases involving minors, and perpetrators will face significant prison sentences.
