The 2nd World Patients Conference, brought together healthcare professionals, advocates, and patients from around the globe to address pressing global healthcare challenges.

The landmark event provided a platform for collaborative problem-solving and innovative solution-finding.

WICO Zimbabwe’s Director, Rebecca Tendai Chirenga, played a pivotal role at the conference, sharing her expertise and showcasing her dedication to healthcare excellence and patient-centered care.

Her contributions aligned seamlessly with the conference’s objectives of advancing global health.

Mrs. Chirenga delivered a compelling speech titled “Advancing Quality and Safe Healthcare in Africa,” highlighting the critical need to improve access to quality healthcare across the continent. Africa bears 24% of the global disease burden but has only 3% of the world’s healthcare workforce, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive efforts to strengthen healthcare systems.

Mrs. Chirenga proposed strategies focusing on strengthening healthcare infrastructure through modernizing facilities, upgrading equipment, and investing in training.

She also emphasized community engagement, leveraging technology, and public-private partnerships to pool resources and expertise for a more robust healthcare system.

Mrs. Chirenga emphasized the value of cross-country collaboration, sharing experiences from regions facing unique healthcare challenges to foster transformative change.

Her initiatives center on principles of equity, inclusivity, and social justice, affirming access to healthcare as a fundamental human right.

WICO Zimbabwe’s mission focuses on empowering marginalized groups, including women and Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), who face significant barriers to accessing quality healthcare services.
