Couple establishes school in Kwekwe

Staff Reporter

The government’s Public and Private Partnerships (PPPs) are bearing fruit with a Kwekwe couple establishing a school in the suburb of Mbizo. Located in Kwekwe’s high-density suburb of Mbizo, is Mbizvo Christian Primary School named after the directors and founders of the institution, Reverend Sheddy and Mrs Regina Mbizvo.

The initiative has brought excitement to the local community which is beginning to enjoy some spin-off benefits from the facility.

“The school is a huge blessing to us. I have two children at the school and my brother has three children. When my children were learning at the other school, they were not performing well. They would ordinarily get low marks like 150 out of 600. Now they are getting around 500 and the improvements are quite commendable,” said a Kwekwe resident.

Another added, “The school has managed to decongest some schools in the community. We are now enjoying favorable facilities here.”

Government is equally excited by efforts being made by the private sector to enhance the country’s education sector.

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Honourable Torerai Moyo said, “The commitment of Mbizvo Christian Group of schools to providing quality education is commendable, as it not only helps alleviate the pressure on government resources but also fosters competion that can enhance educational standards across the board.”

“Private institutions are instrumental in complementing government efforts by establishing schools that prioritize both academic excellence and holistic development, private partners contribute to a diversified educational landscape. Moreover, both public and private schools often introduce innovative teaching methodologies that can adapt more swiftly to the changing demands of society.”

The investor has vowed to continue supporting the Second Republic’s vision of an upper middle-income society by 2030 with several programmes having been lined up.
“I now have a school here, one in Kadoma and another one in Zhombe. I am driven by the President’s mantra of “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”. We are the owners of the country and it is us who can help develop it. I want to urge other Zimbabweans to have faith in our leadership. I have a vision of establishing at least 15 schools by 2030. The chiefs are supporting my vision and I have been assured of maximum support,” said Reverend Mbizvo.

Government commissioned 17 schools built through the Opec Funding for International Development (OFID) in May this year, with 50 more sets to be constructed under the same programme as the Second Republic continues to make strides in increasing education facilities across the country.
