The City of Gweru continues with its mission to boost its service delivery capabilities with the acquisition of a new fleet comprising an omnibus and three single cabs.
The Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Midlands, Honorable Owen Ncube, officially commissioned the vehicles, which were procured at a cost of USD 165,000 from the Council’s own funds.
In his opening remarks, the Mayor of the City of Gweru, His Worship Councilor Martin
Chivhoko, extended his gratitude for the development they are making as CoG.
“Today, we are gathered here to celebrate a significant milestone in our organisation’s growth in development. We are proud to announce the acquisition of vital assets to enhance our operation and service delivery.”
“These include a commuter omnibus with a tailor valued at USD79,950 and three single cabs valued at USD 85,500. These strategic investments demonstrateour commitment to efficiency, productivity, and meeting theevolving needs of our community.”
Clr Chivhoko went on to say that these investments represent a step forward in delivery service, and all thanks to their internal funding model.
“Our internal funding model has enabled us to make these investments, showcasing our financial prudence and sustainability. These investments represent a significant step forward in our journey towards delivering exceptional’ service.”
“They demonstrate our Council acquires new vehicles
to boost service delivery station’s commitment to putting the needs of our communities first and strive for excellence in all we do,” said His Worship.
Hon Ncube commended the council for prioritizing the provision of key infrastructure and the procurement of service vehicles and equipment.
“I commend City of Gweru, yet again, for prioritizing the provision of key infrastructure and the procurement of service vehicles and equipment critical for reliable and efficient service delivery to Gweru residents and the business community.”
“I urge other Local Authorities to ensure efficient and prudent use of public resources, exhibit unfettered accountability, transparency, as well as timely, impartial and equitable services to residents guided by the New Dispensation’s value systems,”added Minister Ncube.
Furthermore, Hon Ncube highlighted Gweru City Council’s commitment to adhered provisions of the Second Republic’s devolution and decentralization agenda.

“Additionally, Hon Ncube expressed deep appreciation for the swift response by Gweru City Council, ZRP, medical staff, and the community in attending to the recent Hungwe bus accident.”

response by Gweru City, ZRP, medical staff, the community, and other members of the Civil Protection who timely attended the recent Hungwe bus accident near Fairmile Hotel and averted further loss of life,”he said.
“As City of Gweru continues to grow and evolve, its new fleet will play a vital role in ensuring that residents receive the best possible services as well asmaking it a significant step forward for the city.”
