The government’s community and campus radio stations initiative has been hailed as a game-changer in promoting grassroots talents.
Chinhoyi based sungura musician Jonathan Siasitumuzira popularly known as Madzibaba Gina can now proudly present himself as a mainstream artist thanks to government’s decentralisation of airwaves.
After spending years as an upcoming artist despite having three albums to his name, he is now featuring in the mainstream media circles as a result of the introduction of community and campus radio stations.
“Ever since government introduced devolution of events we are being afforded opportunities to perform and showcase our abilities.
This is being complemented by the introduction of community and campus radio stations which are promoting local talents.
For instance we have Platinum FM in Chinhoyi and the Chinhoyi University of Technology campus radio which are instrumental in spreading our music to the people,” Madzibaba Gina said.
Madzibaba Gina, who is set to release his fourth album this June said artists have a crucial role to play in amplifying the calls against drug and substance abuse which has since been declared a national disaster.
“This album is not just for the old fans alone but for the youths too. We have to accept the fact that Sungura has evolved, and so have I.
I have infused all music genres in this album with one of the key messages being to the youths to shun drug and substance abuse,” he added.
Madzibaba Gina rose to fame in 2019 with his hit song ‘Kwa Johwa’ which dominated the local airwaves and voted the song of the year on ZBC’s Radio Zimbabwe and ZTV.
