The Commissioner General of Police’s 21 km 14th edition road race which was scheduled for 29 March 2024, has been rescheduled to 3 May bringing a new chance for better preparation and participation.
In a statement by the Assistant Inspector for Provincial Community Relations Liaison Officer F Ngawagare the ZRP has apologised for any inconveniences caused.
“We apologise to the members of the public for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate the understanding and cooperation of all parties involved.
The event aims to promote community engagement, health and wellness while fostering a stronger relationship between the police and the public.
The prestigious Commissioner General of police road race’s 14th edition aims to bring together top athletes and law enforcement officials from across the country.
Midlands police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko has confirmed and said that this year’s race is open for everyone who wishes to participate.
“I am excited to announce that the 14th edition of the Commissioner General of Police’s 21km race will be held at Mkoba Teacher’s College. The race is inclusive and open to everyone, registration will be done online and the registration link will be shared in the earliest time possible. No registration shall be done on the race day.”
“This year’s event aims to see police further their connection with the community as entertainment will be witnessed in their neighbourhoods. Athletes will pass through all Gweru Suburbs and attendees are registered regardless of background, race or colour.”
As communicated before, there are a lot of prizes to be won in the following categories and the first 800 finishers will also receive medals.
To ten open categories for both men and women with the winners walking away with cash prizes.
Top 3 junior men 10km category, top 3 tertiary category, top 3 wheelchair category, top 3 veterans’ category, top 3 masters/mistress category and top 3 grandmasters/ grand mistress category.
The registration fee for the race is USD 20.00 and will include t-shirts as well as meals.
The 13th edition of this race was held at Baobab Primary school in Victoria Falls.
Mr Wayne Kabondo of Mr Pace Athletics Club won the 21 km men’s open category race in 1 hour 4 minutes and 31 seconds.
Ethel Pangiso of ZRP Athletics Club won in the 1km women’s open category in 1 hour 17 minutes and 52 seconds.
Old Mutual Zimbabwe is sponsoring the event and it has been sponsoring it since 2014.
