Cllr Chikwira donates netballballs to Ward 17 women

In a show of dedication to promoting women’s sports and community growth, Ward 17
Councilor Prosperity Munyaradzi Chikwira donated four netball balls to women who took part in a local tournament last weekend.

The gesture was made during a lively gathering of teams and residents and was seen as a
timely boost to grassroots sports, where access to equipment often remains limited.

In his remarks, Cllr. Chikwira stressed the importance of empowering women through sports.

“Netball is more than just a game, but it is a platform for unity, confidence, and
community pride. By investing in our women, we are investing in the future of our Ward 17.”

He also mentioned that men should support the girls and women, as they are the backbone
of the community.

“The only advice I am giving to all men out there is, let us continue to support the girls and
the ladies because they are the cornerstones of the community. If we can have a community that has empowered and supported women, we can succeed in our fight against drugs and substances among the community.”

Tournament organizers expressed thanks, noting that the donation would help maintain regular training and competitions.

One of the team’s captains highlighted how providing equipment would motivate young women to stay active and promote broader participation in sports.

“I would like to express our gratitude to our representatives for the gesture; these are not only balls but rather tools we will use to represent the country to some extent. This has motivated us, as young and older women, to stay active and to encourage wider involvement in sports.”

“Netball brings women together, and having the right equipment makes the game more enjoyable. Cllr Chikwira’s support shows that our efforts are recognized. We feel encouraged knowing our leaders value women’s sports. These balls will help us prepare
for upcoming tournaments and inspire younger girls to join,” a Ward 17 player said.

The event drew energetic support from residents, who packed the grounds with cheers
and lively enthusiasm.

Beyond the matches, the day represented the strength of community teamwork and the
positive influence of local leadership. Cllr Chikwira’s donation is expected to motivate further efforts to promote recreation, health, and empowerment among women and youth in Ward 17.

The gift of netball balls from Cllr Chikwira was more than just providing sports gear; it symbolized a dedication to uplifting women and strengthening community bonds
in Ward 17. The event served as a reminder that when leaders and communities collaborate, progress becomes not just a possibility but an inevitability.
