In a heartwarming gesture, Gweru City Parking (GCP), on Thursday donated six wheelchairs to the Mayor’s Cheer Fund, as part of its Corporate Social responsibility.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, GCP general manager Mr Alphanett Gemu said the donation aims to promote accessibility and inclusivity within the community, particularly among vulnerable members.
He emphasized the company’s commitment to social responsibility and community development.
“The thrust behind this donation is to be able to unlock mobility within the community that needs these types of equipment, however, we are here to hand over this equipment to you, Your Worship, through the Mayor’s Cheer Fund.”
His Worship the Mayor of Gweru, Councillor Martin Chivhoko, expressed his gratitude to Gweru City Park for the donation, saying:
“As the City of Gweru, we are excited and delighted with this kind gesture from Gweru City Park. We know there are a lot of complaints in the streets – my car was clamped, I only parked for a few minutes – but as part of your corporate social responsibility as a city, we are happy with this kind donation. There are a lot of people who are going to receive these wheelchairs. Thank you so much for a job well done. We gladly accept this donation, and we are saying continue doing the work that you are doing, providing sanity to our city. So thank you so much, City Parking team, for this donation.”
The Mayor’s Cheer Fund is a charitable initiative established by the Mayor’s office to provide support and comfort to vulnerable members of the community, including the elderly, orphans, and people with disabilities. The fund relies on donations from well-wishers and corporate partners like Gweru City Park.
Gweru City Park is a company formed in partnership with Gweru City Council and City Parking Private Limited, providing parking services in Gweru. The park’s management has shown a strong focus on corporate social responsibility, and this donation is just one example of their efforts to make a positive impact on the community.
