Chirumanzu irrigation schemes a success

The Agriculture revival efforts by the government are proving to be a game changer for the Chirumanzu community who are beginning to enjoy the fruits of the rehabilitated irrigation schemes.

The Chirumanzu community is enjoying the fruits of the Agriculture revival efforts which have resulted in the rehabilitation of Hamamavhaire and Mhende irrigation schemes being spearheaded by the Agriculture Rural Development Authority (ARDA).

At the Mhende irrigation scheme, the farmers have 77 hectares of land with crops ready for marketing while at Hamamavhaire the community has 48 hectares of crops ready for marketing.

“I just want to thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for reviving our irrigation scheme. I can now send my children to school at ease through proceeds from farming.”
“I am glad I can now spoil myself with the nicer things in life through what I realize from these gardens. I am delighted that everything is coming to a place. I can have healthy food from the garden and the money is changing my family’s lifestyle for the better,’ said Godfrey Mahaka a farmer.

Ever since the garden was rehabilitated, many lives have never been the same again as villagers are now self-reliant and masters of their destiny thanks to the proceeds from the garden.

The government will continue to come up with initiatives to empower people in previously marginalized communities.Honourable Owen Ncube, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, said, “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that this irrigation scheme continues to overcome production and productivity challenges.

The government is committed to supporting farmers at the Mhende irrigation scheme to ensure the success and sustainability of this irrigation scheme. I would like to extend my appreciation to the farmers, government agencies and stakeholders who have made the Mhende irrigation scheme a thriving hub of Agricultural productivity.”

The government has come up with the Agriculture 8.0 model to accelerate the attainment of Vision 2030 as the sector is expected to play a leading role in the attainment of an upper-middle-income society. #TheSun
