CCC youths threaten defection to MDC -T

Staff Reporter
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC), Midlands South province youth leaders are threatening to leave the party for Douglas’ MDC-T if Nelson Chamisa doesn’t reverse his pending decision to dissolve party structures.

According to one of the CCC youth leaders in the province, the decision by Chamisa to dissolve party structures is ill-advised as it is going to disadvantage people already in leadership positions and those who have been loyal to the party for so many years.

“We have been loyal to Chamisa and the party since the split with Khupe. He wants to call for elections at a time when we are busy focusing on selling the new name to the people and by-elections in March. If elections are held at this time, they destabilize the new party as enemies will find ways to take up leadership positions using money,” said the youth leader who requested not to be named.

MDC alliance aspiring parliament candidate for Mkoba, Albert Chadoka confirmed that he was approached by a CCC youth leader (named supplied) who was enquiring on the possibility of him joining the Mwonzora party together with 21 other youths.

” MDC-T is a people’s party, we will welcome them with open hands. It will be up to the party to consider them for leadership when the time comes,” said Chadoka.

However, Chamisa has dismissed claims that he would dissolve his party structures.
Chamisa said the CCC party never had no structures and, therefore, nothing needed to be dissolved.
“We have an action working group and not structures at the moment. Zanu PF is panicking because it was investing in destabilizing CCC, but it can’t go to town and say we have dissolved structures. Which structures when we launched a new party? We were pushed out of the MDC Alliance and formed a party,” Chamisa said.

The CCC leader was responding to allegations made on social media by Zanu PF information director Tafadzwa Mugwadi who tweeted that Chamisa will dissolve his party leadership due to factional fights between him and Biti.

“The MDC breakaway yellow faction named CCC is now at sixes and sevens as Chamisa moves in to dissolve the entire executive except him, (Lynette) Karenyi Kore and Mahere in an attempt to contain factional threats from Biti, Welshman Ncube, and Job Sikhala,” tweeted Mugwadi.
Chamisa said Mugwadi’s statement revealed that Zanu PF was losing sleep over the traction gained by CCC.

“Everyone is a change champion, the citizens are the leaders and they have leaders, this is a radical and disruptive change which is difficult but necessary,” Chamisa said.
