The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced the dates for the Total Energies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2025, set to take place in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania from February 1 to 28, 2025.
CAF 4th Vice President Seidou Mbombo Njoya made the announcement during a press conference at Kempinski Hotel in Nairobi, following the CAF Executive Committee meeting.
“The CHAN 2025 will take place February 1-28th in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. It was also confirmed that the qualifiers for CHAN will kick start between October 25-27th and end in December 2024 and the participating nations in CHAN must consist of players playing in their national Leagues competitions.”
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, said the CHAN 2025 will be a remarkable event and we are confident that it will be the most successful edition.
“CHAN for us is an incredible foundation for the Africa Cup of Nations,” he added.
Dr. Motsepe on behalf of CAF praised Kenyan President Ruto’s commitment to allocating resources for infrastructure development in preparation for CHAN and AFCON. The CAF President emphasized the importance of national teams playing in front of their home fans.
“There is nothing that frustrates me more than a country’s national team going to play outside their country. You cannot build Football when the national teams cannot play in-front of their fans.”
The press conference was attended by top CAF officials, including Augustin Senghor (CAF 1st Vice President), Souleiman Hassan Waberi (CAF 3rd Vice President), Seidou Mbombo Njoya (CAF 4th Vice President), Kanizat Ibrahim (CAF 5th Vice President), and the CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe U20 national team coach Simon Marange has named his provisional squad for the Afcon U20 COSAFA Qualifiers.
