Staff Reporter

Zimbabwe national army officers have been urged to remain professional in the conduct of their duties. This was the rallying call at the change of command at Zimbabwe National Army’s 5 Infantry Brigade in Battlefields after the reassignment of Brigadier General Simo Maseko who is now at the ZNA’s headquarters in Harare as the Brigadier General Quartermaster staff.

Brigadier General Maseko leaves the 5 infantry Brigade in the hands of Brigadier General Mpuleang Siziba who takes over as Commander of the Gweru based unit. He leaves a legacy of dealing with the machete wielding gangs in the mineral rich Midlands province as the Chairperson of the Joint Operations Command (JOC).

“As 5 infantry brigade, we have conducted several administrative exercises and have managed to curtail the machete wielding gangs in our own way. As Mbada Inoruma and we have managed to contain the situation. I am handing over fine men and women to Brigadier Siziba. Am handing over a well-trained formation and I am very grateful to members of JOC who were very cooperative,” said Brigadier General Maseko.

The incoming 5 infantry Brigade commander, Brigadier General Siziba vowed to continue with the projects that were initiated by his predecessor for the good of the establishment. “It is an honour to take over the reins of well-disciplined man and women of the force. I accept all the responsibilities associated with five infantry Brigade.

I accept the challenge of chairing of JOC meetings as well as the security for His Excellency since he resides here. I am ready to take over all the projects that were being carried out by the outgoing commander. It’s my hope that during my term I will get the support from the national headquarters,” Brigadier Siziba. Commander Zimbabwe National Army Lieutenant General Anselem Sanyatwe, who was the Chief Witness during the handover – takeover ceremony urged military personnel to remain professional in the way they conduct their duties.

“The two generals are of unquestionable credentials, they have a rich history of serving the Zimbabwe National Army. Let me commend Brigadier General Simo Maseko for taking up a daunting task after taking charge of the command especially in the illegal mining activities that were rampant in the province.

He has been in charge of the construction of several clinics and schools. He has been at the forefront in assisting community through corporate social responsibility programmes. His predecessor also has a rich history of working for the nation.

As members of the Zimbabwe National Army, we have a constitutional duty to defend our country from adversities.  Let us always perform such duties diligently,” Lieutenant General Anselem Sanyatwe.

The Zimbabwe National Army which is responsible for ensuring security of the country has also been involved community development programmes, which include construction of schools and clinics.
