In a move aimed at revitalizing the local economy, Palawani Beekeeping Training Center has launched a Bees Honey Company.

The initiative is aimed to equip aspiring beekeepers with the skills and resources needed to succeed in fostering entrepreneurship and job creation.

Speaking to this reporter at YAFest last weekend, Mr Welcome Bhila who is the Chief Technical Director at Bees Honey Company, highlighted the roles of beekeeping in Zimbabwe’s agricultural economy.

“Bees are crucial not just for livelihoods but for the environment as well. With climate change and environmental conservation being global concerns, we are advising communities to embrace beekeeping which supports both biodiversity and sustainable agriculture.”

“This project promises to boost economic growth, create employment opportunities as well as promote environmental conservation in Zimbabwe and the entire sub-Saharan region.”

The Bees Honey Company is running with the theme Mutually Supporting the Agriculture Industry (MUTSA) which is an innovation aiming to improve productivity, quality and market access for beekeepers, processors and traders.

Bhila went on to say that as Bees Honey we aim to improve productivity as well as to empower youth and women in the surrounding areas through training that they do at the resort.

“The company’s main objective is to improve productivity and quality of honey production as well as enhancing market access for Zimbabwean honey and not forgetting promoting sustainable beekeeping/farming practices and empower youths and women through training and entrepreneurship.”

One of the beneficiaries fromUmguzaoject who is a vibrant youth commented on how this project has lifted her up.

“The training I got from Palawani Beekeeping Center has changed my life, they gave me the skills and confidence, I can assure you all that I am getting a lot from this training to the extent that I will be able to start my own Honey company.”

Zimbabwe has a vibrant honey producer base and its systems aim to increase production and according to Agritex honey production in Zimbabwe averages 400 000 kgs annually and exports to international markets.
