APRM delegation commends Midlands’ private sector driven economic progress

The Midlands Province is intensifying efforts to strengthen its economic development coordination mechanisms, with a renewed emphasis on private sector driven investments aimed at accelerating growth and improving livelihoods.

This was revealed during a courtesy visit by the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) delegation to the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Owen Ncube, in Gweru on Monday.

Briefing the delegation, Minister Ncube highlighted that Midlands has become the fastest-growing province in the country with its gross domestic product standing at 4.7%, attributing its progress to deliberate private investments across key sectors including mining, agriculture, manufacturing, and construction.

APRM lead panel member for Zimbabwe, Ambassador Aly El Hefney, said their visit to the Midlands Province will offer them an opportunity to get valuable insights into how governance principles are applied at provincial and district levels.

APRM focal person for Zimbabwe, Ambassador Albert Chimbindi said the visit by the APRM delegation to the Midlands province will allow for broader stakeholder engagement at grassroots level, thereby promoting inclusivity.

Zimbabwe’s ongoing targeted review by the APRM is focusing on the economic governance and management thematic area. ZBC
