Three men have been arrested for murdering Bornface Nkomazana (66), with knives and machetes at Butete village, lower Gweru under Chief Bunina on his way home on 8 March 2025 at around 2300 hours.
According to the Midlands Liaison Officer Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, a group of nine men are being investigated for a case of murder that occurred at Butete.
Out of the nine men, three members of the group were arrested during preliminary investigations.
“Three members of the group have been arrested during preliminary investigations and they are: Thabani Ncube (19), Confidence Sibanda (20) and Mthulisi Ndebele (23), all of Jali village under Chief Bunina, Lower Gweru.”
Inspector Mahoko said the now deceased was alleged to have been on his way home on 8 March 2025 at around 2300 hours, from Lower Gweru Business Center. He was confronted and attacked when he reached an open space behind Maboleni police station and Butete’s first homesteads.
“When he reached an open space behind Maboleni police station and Butete first homesteads, he was confronted and attacked by a group of about nine youths believed to be from Matshina village in Mambanjeni area, with machetes and knives.”
Inspector Mahoko went on to say, that on the following day, Nkomazana was found lying in a pool by a witness and when ZRP Maboleni arrived at the scene, the victim had a broken leg.
“On the 9th of March 2025 at around 0700 hours, Bornface Nkomazana was discovered lying in a pool of blood by Lovemore Sibanda aged 38 of Butete village, Lower Gweru. ZRP Maboleni, during the scene attendance, noted that the victim had a broken right leg, with a protruding bone on the ankle. “
“He was taken to Gweru Provincial Hospital and a docket of Attempted Murder was opened. Bornface Nkomazana died while on the way to the hospital.”
The ZRP spokesperson said investigations have revealed that Nkomazana’s attackers allegedly move from door to door in Butete village assaulting villagers.
“Three other reports from the affected villagers were also made at Maboleni police station. Quick follow-ups made by the police stations resulted in the arrest of the three suspects who were in police custody. Six others are yet to be arrested.”
According to Inspector Mahoko, it was established that there is a grudge between Butete youths and Mambonjeni village youths over issues of ladies of the night believed to be in love with some of the Butete boys and were once married in Mambonjeni area.
The ZRP appeals to the public to help in investigations.
