Anglican transforming lives

Buhle Mhlaulo

The Anglican Church’s presence was felt throughout the Midlands community through its multifaceted projects aimed at improving the lives of locals.

One notable initiative is the completion of a school in Gokwe, providing a safe and conducive learning environment for students.

This project has improved access to quality education, empowering young people to build a brighter future.

The enrollment had been from form one and two. Bishop Ingenious Makumbe beamed with pride as he spoke about the school’s potential. He also added on to say not only did they open in Gokwe.

The school’s facilities had been further enhanced by the drilling of a borehole, providing clean water for the students and the surrounding community.

The community’s joy was real as they benefited from this essential resource.

Meanwhile, the Church’s commitment to sustainability was evident in its innovative solar power project at St Patrick’s Farm.

A 157-kilowatt solar garden was set to support the school and hospital, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and promoting environmentally friendly practices. Bishop Makumbe explained, “Our idea is to make our school one of the greenest, aligning with ZESA, with ZESA as our second option.”

The Church planned to take it a step further with a 5 megawatt solar farm, aiming to sell electricity to ZESA or direct customers.

In addition to these initiatives, the Anglican Church had also invested in improving mortuary facilities at St Patrick’s, which can contain nine people and offer affordable services at $10 for three days.

Bishop Makumbe highlighted the significance of this project: “We have a very good mortuary demonstrating our commitment to serving the most vulnerable members of society.”

The Church project has not only improved their lives but also served as a beacon of hope for a brighter future to the Midlands community.
