A Gift of Hope and Faith: Navaya’s compassionate outreach to MCA

Blessing Nduku

In a heartwarming display of generosity and community spirit, Zimbabwe’s Soccer Star of the Year, Washington Navaya, reached out to the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) during an initiative held at St. Michael’s Parish in Gweru last Sunday.

This gesture highlighted Navaya’s commitment to uplifting young lives while emphasizing the vital role that the MCA plays in fostering values of compassion, service, and responsibility among children.

The outreach event brought together children, parish leaders, and community members in a shared moment of faith, gratitude, and hope.

The Missionary Childhood Association focuses on instilling Christian values and a sense of global responsibility in children, which was central to Navaya’s latest community initiative.

Navaya’s donation included financial support, a football for the MCA, and a printed Navaya t-shirt for the parish priest, all intended to address both spiritual and physical needs.

During the handover, representatives from the organization emphasized that this gesture was part of Navaya’s broader commitment to supporting vulnerable groups and collaborating with faith-based institutions that work closely with children.

“Our aim is not only to provide material support but also to affirm the dignity and potential of every child,” said a representative of Navaya.

“The Missionary Childhood Association is shaping young people into compassionate, responsible, and faith-driven citizens, and we are honored to support that mission.”

Reverend Father Alphonse Masuna, the parish priest, expressed his gratitude for Navaya’s gesture towards the MCA.

“As we strive to build a community that honors God and cherishes its youth, we are thankful for Navaya’s generous donation, which will aid our efforts in combating drug and substance abuse.
This initiative aligns with our church’s mission to nurture the spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of our congregation and the wider community.”

Father Masuna added, “We pray that this donation will inspire others to join us in this crucial work so that, together, we can create a safer, healthier, and more loving environment for all.”

Mr. Taurai Demo, the chairman of St. Michael’s Parish, expressed heartfelt appreciation, noting that the donation would significantly enhance the association’s activities.

“The Missionary Childhood Association teaches children that they are part of a global Church and that they, too, can make a difference in their communities.
Navaya’s support reinforces this message and demonstrates to our children that kindness and generosity are not just taught principles but lived values.”

Navaya’s outreach left a lasting impression on the children of the Missionary Childhood Association, reaffirming their belief that they are supported, valued, and capable of shaping a better future.

The donation to St. Michael’s Parish stands as a testament to how acts of compassion, rooted in faith and community, can inspire hope and create meaningful change—one child, one parish, and one partnership at a time.
