85MW Solar Plant in Zvishavane

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has received an application from China-Zim Green Energy and Technology Corporation (Private) Limited to construct an 85MW solar photovoltaic plant at Muzvondiwa Business Centre in Zvishavane.

The notice was issued in terms of section 4/3) of the Electricity (Licensing) Regulations, 2008 published in Statutory Instrument 103 of 2008.

However, the proposed plant will generate power for the applicant’s consumption and will also be connected to the grid through a 132kV single line from the Mapanzure 132kV substation.

China-Zim Green Energy and Technology Corporation (Private) Limited intends to generate power from the proposed solar plant for its consumption.

The project will be connected to the grid through the construction of a 132kV single line from the Mapanzure 132kV substation to the cut-in and out point of the existing 132kV Zvishavane-Unki Tee 43MVa line,” reads the statement.

Therefore, the application was made in terms of Sections 42 and 46 of the Electricity Act (Chapter 13: 19).

ZERA has invited interested parties to make representations on the application within 14 days from publication, which expires on March 21, 2025.

Any person desiring to make representations on this application for a generation license as advertised may lodge a written representation with ZERA within 14 days from the last day of this publication, which expires on 21 March 2025.

The written representations can either be handed over to ZERA offices or emailed to the authority email address. However, any objections or representations received after 21 March 2025, shall not be considered by the Authority,” the statement reads.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has introduced a new tax on gross winnings of betting punters.“According to a statement released by ZIMRA on 4 March 2025, the new tax return, dubbed Withholding Tax on Gross Winnings of Betting Punters Tax Return, is now available on the Tax Authority’s online system (TaRMS) for taxpayer access.

The Withholding Tax on Gross Winnings of Betting Punters Tax Return. This return is due on or before the 5th of the month following the end of the calendar month.

Withholding Tax on Gross Winnings of Betting Punters was introduced with effect from 1 January 2025 hence the payment of the tax due is on the 10th of the month following the end of the calendar month,” the statement reads.

However, the tax rate is 10% hence Taxpayers are advised to first create the Tax Type in SSP, and the effective date of registration can be any date from 1 January 2025.

If the January 2025 return has not yet been manually captured, taxpayers are advised to upload the return in the system,” furthers the statement.“
