Mkoba Teachers College last week hosted a graduation ceremony with 406 graduating as student teachers marking a significant milestone for the college as it prepares future educators for the evolving landscape of teaching.

However, running under the theme: “Heritage Inspired, Technologically Empowered: The Future Education”, 113 completed their studies in secondary education, while 293 earned diplomas in primary education.

Principal Dr. Rosina Mavunga recognized the outstanding achievements of the best overall students, Muridzi Arlly and Gwendere Tatenda, who were honored for their exemplary performance.

“The academic performance of this cohort is truly outstanding,” said Dr. Mavunga.

“The secondary Science program achieved an impressive 87.6% pass rate, while both the General Course and Early Childhood Development programs recorded a perfect 100% pass rate.

“The graduates were celebrated with various awards, including cash prizes from organizations such as ZIMDEF and Science Shield from Eat and Lick. Additionally, the college presented gold trophies and hampers to commend the students’ hard work and dedication.

Dr. Mavunga also discussed the exciting developments at Gangarabwe School, which is anticipated to open its doors to new learners in 2026.

She highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a practicing school in Mvuma, noting that topographical surveys have already been completed.

Reflecting on the college’s mission, Dr. Mavunga emphasized the importance of self-reliance, quoting the Zimbabwean President’s mantra: “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo / Ilizwe lakwiwa ngabanikazi balo,” which means “A nation is built by its people.

“As Mkoba Teachers College continues to empower future educators, the institution remains committed to embracing heritage and leveraging technology to enhance educational outcomes.
