At least 25 health workers at Zvishavane District Hospital and three
registry staff have tested positive for Covid-19, Midlands provincial
affairs minister, Larry Mavima has confirmed.
Mavima said the hospital employees were tested after two health staff
at the institution tested positive.
“On the 13th July 2020, Zvishavane District Hospital received eight
polymerase chain reaction (PCR) positive results of which two were for
health workers,”Mavima said.
“These results prompted the testing of other healthcare workers and
other probable contacts within the hospital on the same day.”
He added: “The hospital received results today (yesterday) 19 July and
25 out of 28 health care workers tested positive. Three registry staff
also tested positive.”
Mavima, who is also Midlands Covid-19 taskforce chairperson said they
were carrying out investigations to establish the source and
characterise the pattern of transmission of infection.
He said measures including contact tracing have since been taken to
prevent the further spreading of the novel virus.
