Gweru Urban Member of Parliament (MP) has been nominated to head the Public Accounts committee in Parliament, the Speaker of Parliament Honorable Jacob Mudenda announced.
Hon Brian Dube becomes the first Gweru Urban MP to chair a committee in the house since the opposition got into parliament in 2000.
The Gweru urban MP said he is indebted to be in charge of an important committee.
“The task is huge but I undertake to discharge it firmly and with honor and dignity,” posted Dube.
Hon Dube assumed the chairperson of Public Accounts committee after the recall of the long time serving chairperson Honourable Tendai Biti. However, the High court has since overturned the recall of Biti and other PDP members of Parliament.
The Public Accounts committee is one of the oversight committee that interrogates government and public institutions expenditure as well as making sure that public funds are utilized in a transparent and accountable manner.
