Stakeholders invited for Unki ESIA Assessment

Anglo-American subsidiary company, Unki Mine has sent out an invitation to community members, interested parties and stakeholders to contribute to the mine’s Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) between the 5th and the 6th of December this year.

The Invitation comes at a time when Unki Mine intends to apply for an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) certificate to construct a 30-to-50-megawatt solar power facility on 135 hectares of land under its lease area in Shurugwi.

The first engagement meeting shall be held on the 5th of December 2022 at Unki Mine, Nyathi camp from 10 am to 12 noon. The second meeting is slated for Nichrut Lodge in Shurugwi on the 6th of December from 9 am to 12 noon.
Unki Mines has also advised that additional meetings will be held within Shurugwi communities.

SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Limited (SLR), in collaboration with Black Crystal Consulting (Pty) (Black Crystal), has been appointed by Anglo-American to undertake the ESIA for the proposed Project.

All stakeholders are invited to register as Interested and Affected Parties and submit any initial questions or comments to Black Crystal.

All registered stakeholders will continue to be given the opportunity to participate and comment on reports for the full duration of the ESIA process. #The Sun
