River Valley Group has pledged to sink a borehole at Wida Primary School in Shurugwi to cushion pupils and members of staff who have been walking for nearly 1km to access the nearby water source.
River Valley Group CEO, Dr Amb Smelly Dube offered to help the school with a borehole during the school’s prize-giving ceremony where she was the guest of honor.
She said water was life and pupils needed to learn in a smart and hygienic environment hence her decision to provide the school with water.
The philanthropic businesswoman who, outside private property development, has interests in mining also pledged to pay fees for 14 pupils at the school who are in a special class.
This will add to several dozens of other pupils the businesswoman has been paying school fees in Gweru and Shurugwi.
“We are here to celebrate the success of our pupils in their life journey which begins in school. We want them to learn in a conducive environment and from the challenges that the school has, I have seen that what is more critical is the issue of water by next week, we will have sunk a borehole here in the school,” said Dr Dube who was represented at the occasion by the group finance director, Prophet Dr. Richard Chiwara.
Dr Dube urged parents to take good care of their kids making sure that all were in school.
“These kids are our future leaders we need to take good care of them and the first step is to make sure that our kids are in school as we shape their future, these are our leaders of tomorrow,” she said.
Dr Dube said her company will continue to work hand in hand with the school authorities to improve the learning conditions for learners.
The school head Mr Willard Karonga commended River Valley Group for pledging to sink a borehole at the school.
“We are very happy and proud to be associated with the RVP group, we had a serious water challenge here and were struggling to maintain our garden, especially in summer,” he said.
He said the borehole will help the school introduce self-sustaining projects.#The Sun
