People with disabilities receive food hampers

More than 40 people with disabilities in Gweru received food hampers donations at a time when many are struggling as the Covid 19 lockdowns impacts their ability to feed their families.

On Thursday afternoon, it was all smiles for many disabled people after a local leading land developer, River Valley Properties donated food hampers which included, chicken, cooking oil, rice, mealie meal, among other goodies.
Speaking at the event, River Valley properties chief executive, Dr Smelly Dube said donation made by her company was in line with His excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for corporates to assist the less privileged members of the society.

“I have written to President Mnangagwa and the local leadership notifying them about this event, some may be worried saying I’m doing such charity work as they accuse me of being a land baron. It is important for people to separate Smelly Dube’s personal life and that of River valley as a company,” she said.

Dr Smelly Dube who last week received Honorary Doctor of Diplomacy and International Relations, has over the years maintained her charity work of helping the elderly and those with disabilities.
Some were in tears after receiving the food hampers and they were thankful for the good work by the company.
