City of Gweru has commissioned two Isuzu KB Max service vehicles and grass slashers which are meant to improve provision of quality services to the city.
The third vehicle commissioned is a state of the art brand new Toyota Land Cruiser VX worth US$176 000, which was purchased for the fired Town Clerk, Elizabeth Gwatipedza.
“Let these vehicles be put to good use, it will not be fair for the residents to be short-changed when the vehicles are not used for the set jobs.
“I would like to thank CASAS and Wackdrive Investments for the Isuzu KB Max vehicles valued at US$56700, which are part of the contractual obligations for servicing Mkoba 21 and Randolph residential stands” said Clr Josiah Makombe.
Meanwhile, Clr Makombe could not confirm nor deny rumours that he is going to be allocated the Toyota Land Cruiser VX with a mileage of 34.3km to use during his official council business.
“As Gweru Mayor I use any vehicle allocated to me as long as it has council’s white number plates. If the Toyota Land Cruiser VX is allocated to me by the acting Town Clerk to use it, yes why not?, said Clr Makombe.
Traditionally at the end of each council’s term of office , the Minister of local government usually gives an outgoing mayor a vehicle he/she was using during his/her official business at book value.
