The G40 remnants are causing headache and sleepless nights to ZANU PF party in the Midlands province with allegations of attempts to infiltrate into the District Coordinating Committees (DCC).
Speaking at a current affairs interface programme on a local radio station in Gweru, ZANU PF Midlands provincial spokesperson Cornileus Mupereri said G40 elements are trying to capture and consolidate its power base through the District Coordinating Committees (DCC) and party members should be on alert.
He said elements have been blamed for sponsoring chaos as well as undermining the party from within to engineer their political survival.
“G40 elements exist and this cabal has been wrestled from power and they are trying by all means to come back. They are aware that the DCC organ is powerful, hence they have seen an opportunity to sneak in and control the party again.
“However, the party constitution is very clear that if a member has disciplinary issues or a vote of no confidence or is fired from the party, one must start from the cell,” said Mupereri.
He said the G40 faction wanted to sneak into the party structures using unorthodox means using money because they realized that politics outside ZANU PF is tough.
He added that the province is yet to receive formal complaints about senior leadership interfering with DCC elections and warned those who might be involved.
“If there are senior leadership interfering with the DCC elections process, they must stop it as it is against the party constitution. We know that they might be people in senior leadership positions who might want to capture the structures for personal benefits but that will not work,” said Mupereri.
Recently the media was awash with reports suggesting that the DCC elections process is marred by violence and exchange of dirty money reflecting deep factional wars in the party.
The DCC was disbanded in 2012 at the height of factional wars between the incumbent President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa and the former Vice President Joice Mujuru.
