In a dramatic turn, barely 48 hours after rejecting request by residents to reduce the approved 2021 budget, City of Gweru announced that all tariffs will be reduced by 50% backdated to January this year.
According to documents seen by this reporter, council held an emergency special council meeting to discuss the residents’ request and it was agreed to reduce all tariffs.
Additionally, all residents with up to date accounts will be given 30percent discount every time they pay their bills, with immediate effect.
The Mayor of Gweru is set to hold a press conference this afternoon to officially announce this new development.
GRRA director Cornelius Selipiwe was all smiles saying the local authority has proved to residents that it is a listening council against public belief that the city fathers have abandoned the caring mode.
Happy April Fool’s Day 2021
