The Ministry of Health and Child Care has closed Anderson High school in Gweru after 20 students tested positive for coronavirus, Chairperson of the taskforce, who is also midlands minister of state Senator Larry Mavhima confirmed.
The Adventist church run school which has an enrollment of 394 pupils, 226 girls, 198 boys, 32 teachers and 45 support staff has been cordoned off with negative day scholars being quarantined at home after being screened.
“We have with immediate effect taken measures to prevent the spread of covid19 at the school by separating the affected students from the rest and have quarantined all who tested negative ,” said Hon Mavhima.
He added that health officials have started disinfecting all cubicles (dormitories) at the school while waiting for results of other 42 specimens which were collected.
Zimbabwe has so far recorded 9,714 confirmed cases of COVID-19 including 8470 recoveries and 275 deaths.
