Several foreign and local investors have expressed interest in investing in various solar projects in Bulawayo.
According to the latest council report, a total of nine investors have submitted their proposals to set up various solar projects in the city.
Council has already given management the green light to submit the proposals to the Zimbabwe Investment and Development Agency (ZIDA) for guidance while some of the investors have been requested to provide additional information regarding their operations.
Some of the companies which have been shortlisted include Rishi Investments, NaNaaNovo Energy, Sateawve, and Technologies Cottontree Engineering t/a Williams Engineering.
During a recent council meeting, the city’s deputy mayor, Clr Mlandu Ncube expressed concern over some companies which failed to provide adequate information in their proposals. He also sought clarification on the city’s foreign investment policy.
“The Deputy Mayor raised concern on those companies which did not specify the location like where they intended to carry out the project. He suggested that projects should be treated as they came and companies should identify sites, size and location,” reads part of the council minutes.
Alderman Siboniso Khumalo also sought clarity on the joint venture that had been indicated by some of the companies.
The Alderman wanted to know whom the companies were partnering with. Responding to the concerns Town Clerk Christopher Dube explained that the council will only enter into joint ventures with some of the companies where necessary. #Byo Citizen
